This seminar will examine the role of the little magazines (such as BLAST, transition, etc.) and small presses (such
as Olympia Press, Shakespeare & Co., etc.) in the development of Modernism and the more general history of
experimental writing in the 20th and 21st centuries, including the mimeograph revolution of the 1970s and the
advent of new media in the 1990s. A central component of the seminar will be practical (participation in the actual
operations of a small press/journal). Students wishing to join this seminar will need to present a sample piece of
critical/creative writing (with contact details, to Dr Louis Armand) by 10 February--ONLY suitable candidates will be
invited to enroll.
