Aim of the course

Students attending this course will be introduced to the main features of experimental psycholinguistic research and will be trained in performing a reaction time experiment with the software "Psychopy". The course will consist of the following stages:

1. Training with the software Psychopy.
2. Finding a topic of interest and then a gap in the psycholinguistic literature on that topic. 
3. Deciding the methodology to be used to fill this gap and then creating an experiment. 
4. Creation of the task.
5. Pilot testing

The teacher will closely follow the students in all the stages of the project. Most of the work will be conducted during class-time. Each phase will last approximately two seminars.

Předmět seznamuje studenty s hlavními rysy experimentálního psycholingvistického výzkumu. Součástí předmětu je také uskutečnění psycholingvistického experimentu.

 

Program semináře je následující: 

1. Výběr hlavního předmětu zájmu; hledání mezery v psycholingvistické literatuře na toto téma

2. Zvolení metodologie na zaplnění této mezery v literatuře; vytvoření experimentu

3. Hledání účastníků, jejich testování

4. Analýza dat

5. Sepsání studie v podobě konferenčního příspěvku

Vyučující bude se studenty úzce spolupracovat ve všech fázích projektu, od studia literatury po psaní studie. Většina práce bude probíhat během jednotlivých seminářů; každý bod programu bude trvat přibližně dva semináře.

The teacher will supervise the development of the experiment and will make sure that the students are active in its realisation. All students are required to contribute to the completion of the expriment in its various stages. This includes giving input in the design of the experiment, helping with the recruitiment of the participants, conducting part of the testing and contributing to the analysis and writing up phases.
