The primary objective of the "Biology of Children" course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the biological processes governing the development of children from prenatal stages through adolescence. Through the exploration of hormonal regulation during pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn health, as well as the examination of prenatal development and nutritional influences, the course aims to equip students with a profound knowledge of the biological foundations that shape the growth and well-being of children. Furthermore, the goal includes fostering an in-depth comprehension of the intricate connections between nutrition, cognitive functions, and overall development in toddlers, preschoolers, schoolchildren, and adolescents. The subject seeks to elucidate the complexities of psychomotor development, offering insights into diagnostics and stimulation strategies. The course strives to provide students with a nuanced understanding of the psychosocial and personality development of children, employing diagnostic tools for assessment. Additionally, the goal extends to exploring the development of crucial physiological systems, including the nervous, endocrine, immune, respiratory, cardiovascular, excretory, and digestive systems. By delving into the neurophysiology of motor development and neonatal reflexes, the subject aims to enhance students' knowledge of the underlying biological mechanisms governing motor skills and early neurological development. The presentation of student projects adds a practical dimension, encouraging hands-on application of theoretical concepts. Ultimately, the goal is to empower students with a holistic and multidisciplinary perspective on the biology of children, enabling them to comprehend, analyze, and contribute to the optimal development and well-being of children across various stages of life. Last but not least, the aim of this course is to support students in orientation in scientific literature and critical thinking. |
