Please note, the lectures are given in Czech language. English version of the course can be requested in advance if there are at least 3 students. This course concerns basic overview of the computational methods in this field of ecology and evolutionary biology. Its major is the complex solution of the specific model problems using real datasets and a battery of evolutionary-ecological programs (usually free software).
Discussed topics include different approaches to morphometric data (including geometric morphometrics), allometric trends, reconstruction of phylogeny and ancestral traits, and interspecific comparative methods.

Syllabus -

1) Phylogeny reconstruction - nongenetic data, mixture of genetic and nongenetic

data (?total evidence" approach), tests of congruence among different datasets

2) Phylogenetic correlation of continuous traits, analysis of allometric trends within phylogenetic

framework, independent contrasts

3) Optimalisation of discrete traits onto extant cladogram

4) Phylogenetic correlation of discrete traits - maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood method

5) Image processing and analyzing - dimensional (distance, angle, perimeter, area) measurements

6) Growth curves

7) Morphospace, multivariate statistical methods in morphometrics - primarily principal component

analysis (PCA) and discriminant function analysis (DFA)

8) Tests of association between morphometric and geographic distances

9) Basics of geometric mophometrics - comparison with classical morphometrics, landmarks and

criteria of their choosing, superimposition methods, thin plate method, PCA and DFA in geometric

morphometrics
