Annotation -
The lectures are given in Czech language. Study literature and tutorials can be given in English. English version of the course can be requested for at least 3 foreign students.

Under the focus of this course are basic floristic and biogeographic characteristics of the tropical zone. Special attention is paid to the methods of botanical research in the tropics, collection, determination and conservation of the tropical plants.In the thematic blocks, such as "The origin, evolution and distribution of the biodiversity in tropics", "Dominant families of the tropical forests", "Peculiar and endemic families of the tropical zone", "Flora and biogeography of tropical mountains", "Vines", "Epiphytes", "Parasites and Saprophytes", "History of the tropical floras", are presented the basic characteristics of the tropics in context of the historical and ecological events and conditions.

Special excursion to the Botanical Garden in Liberec and Teplice is organic part of this course.

PODMÍNKY SPLNĚNÍ PŘEDMĚTU: 1. Zápočet Bude udělen na základě splnění dvou praktických ůkolů z probírané problematiky 2. Zkouška Závěrečné hodnocení bude na základě závěrečného testu s poznávačkou. Hodnocení: celkem 100 b. (1: 100-80b., 2: 79-65 b., 3: 64-50 b.,)

1. Distribution, diversity and history of the tropical ecosystems

2. Methods of botanical research in the Tropics. Plant collection, determination and conservation in the Tropics

3. Dominant plant families of the tropical forests

4. Steno-endemic and rare plant families of the world

5. Vines. Epiphytes. Carnivorous, Parasitical, Myrmecophytic, and Saprophytic plants.

6. Flora of Mangrove

7. Taxonomy and biogeography of tropical grasses

This course is presented in form of one-week practical exercises and use rich demonstrative material (demonstrative collections of department of botany, herbarium specimens collection ands living plants). The course is finalized by excursion to some of the important botanical garden in Prague, Liberec or Teplice.
