| The course is aimed at professionals working in archives, registries, and other administrative institutions, as well as professionals from other fields who are undergoing retraining. In addition, it is intended for genealogists and regional researchers interested in gaining a deeper understanding of auxiliary sciences and the history of administration, as well as a closer insight into the work of archives and, in this context, the issues of document management. Teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, and practical exercises focused on working with sources, and includes excursions to various types of archives. Teaching takes place mainly at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, as well as at the National Archives, the State Regional Archives in Prague, the Masaryk Institute, and the Archives of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is taught by lecturers from the Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archival Studies in cooperation with staff not only from the above-mentioned archives, but also from other institutions. |

| Course content: basics of auxiliary historical sciences; modern paleography; diplomatics; history of administration since 1526 in the context of Czech history; sphragistics, heraldry, genealogy; basics of archival studies and archival legislation; document and pre-archival care, archival operations and technology; organizational principles and methods of archival processing of various types of documents and archival fonds (including photo and audio documents, collections of maps and plans, etc.); excursions – National Archives, State Regional Archives in Prague, examples of ministry and company archives, and an introduction to the records management department. | |
