Annotation: The course follows on from previous educational courses for teachers of philosophy/foundations of social sciences, organized by the Institute of Philosophy and Religious Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. It is based on the assumption that the goal of teaching philosophy is primarily to lead students to independent critical thinking and to hone the skills of clearly formulating ideas, arguing factually, discussing and reading even more difficult texts with understanding.
The goal of problem-oriented teaching of philosophy is to develop students' thinking through the thematization of problematic philosophical questions. The one-day course organized at the Didaktikon educational center shows how problem-oriented teaching of philosophy can be implemented in the environment of Czech secondary schools. Participants will first visit the exhibit "Philosophical Trainer" and try out interactive methods that can be used to thematize factually important philosophical questions and at the same time develop students' thinking, specifically their ability to understand texts, themselves and other people, argue and communicate.
The following parts of the course will first explain and justify the essence of problem-oriented teaching of philosophy in more detail and secondly demonstrate with examples how its principles can be applied in teaching the questions on which the exhibit focuses: 1. Why, when and how should we think critically? 2. What is love? 3. Should we spend our lives in virtual worlds? 4. How should we behave towards the environment? The course as a whole will also demonstrate how the teaching of philosophy can be connected with the teaching of social sciences (psychology, sociology, political science).
The course is led by subject-specific didactics from the Institute of Philosophy and Religious Studies and the creators of the worksheets.
