Guidelines
The bachelor’s thesis is devoted to the analysis of Nazım Hikmet’s life (1902-1963) and his poetry. The student mainly aims to create a mosaic consisting of the selected periods of Hikmet’s life by observing a timeline of his biography along with literary analysis. Within the framework of this research, the student’s aim is to create a new perspective on Hikmet's life which could be achieved by outlining the interpretation of his poetry in certain aspects. Nazım Hikmet was born in Turkey, lived his life as an exile in Russia and a part of it in the Czech Republic. He had a strong leftist opinion which was also reflected in his romantic poetry. A historical explanatory approach will be adopted to carry out with the research along with qualitative content analysis, literary content analysis and journal analysis. The student will research Hikmet’s life followed by a literary analysis to find out any interrelation between the turn points of the poet’s life and the poems he wrote during the crucial changes and challenges he experienced. After sufficient research is made and enough knowledge is obtained, the student plans to analyze and reconstruct certain moments of Hikmet’s life through his poems from a subjective point of view. The research requires significant amount of time dedicated to understanding and interpreting the poems as only a certain number of poems of Hikmet were translated in foreign languages and the student is expected to analyze these poems written in Turkish as well as multiple number journals also in Turkish to fulfill the historical part of the research.
