| Guidelines |
| The aim of the thesis is to shed light on the development of the Czech secondary preposition „kvůli“, from expressing benefaction in Old Czech to expressing cause in Modern Czech. Adopting a constructional framework, syntactic and semantic features of the preposition and its surrounding context as well as their gradual changes will be analysed. Drawing on data from authentic historical materials, a great importance of critical contexts (Diewald, 2006), which allow for more than one interpretation, will be assumed for the new functions to emerge. Finally, the ultimate goal is to describe the grammaticalization path of „kvůli“. |
