Guidelines

Astrologie je fenomén, který lze studovat jako historicky-kulturní jev, ale také může být propagována jako standardní vědní obor. V roce 2001 došlo indickým vládním orgánem pro vysoké školství University Grants Commission (UGC) k zařazení astrologie a védské matematiky mezi univerzitní studijní obory a následnému zavedení astrologických fakult na indických univerzitách. Toto rozhodnutí spolu s okolnostmi, jež k němu vedly, vyvolalo řadu otázek a rozpoutalo širokou debatu mezi indickými akademiky doma i v zahraničí. Rozhodnutí bylo kritiky hodnoceno jako zpátečnický až protiústavní populistický tah Indické lidové strany (BJP), spíše než jako podpora tradičních forem vědění, jak bylo prezentováno ve vládním prohlášení.
Podle mnoha odborníků přírodních i humanitních věd bylo uvedení astrologie na univerzitách jedním z mnoha kroků tzv. šafranizace (saffronisation) indické společnosti, jejíž součástí je i mytologizace historie a historického výzkumu. Je tedy projevem odklonu od sekularismu a racionalismu směrem ke kulturnímu nacionalismu a náboženskému fundamentalismu. Obdobné tendence můžeme pozorovat např. v americkém protestantismu a muslimském světě.
Cílem práce je analýza akademické debaty o institucionalizaci astrologie a úvah o možných důsledcích tohoto kroku pro politické směřování Indie, jež byly publikovány v odborných časopisech a spolehlivých publicistických zdrojích. Analýzu budu dále specifikovat na příkladové studii zaměřené na katedru „Tradiční architektury a astrologie“ na Banaras Hindu University. Závěrem se pokusím o zasazení výsledků analýzy do globálního kontextu.
