Guidelines
This bachelor's thesis is aiming to examine how the concept of charismatic leadership can be realized in presidential rhetoric. The case study is the rhetoric of the former president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The work implements a comparative discourse analysis of Nazarbayev’s annual addresses to the people of Kazakhstan from 1997 and 2012.
The 90’s were the times of post-Soviet transition filled with hopes and new visions about the upcoming democratic future. The 1997 presidential address as compared to the address from 2012, which shows the ex-president’s pragmatic self-representation, is more idealistic and has a form of literary work.
The main hypothesis is that the concept of charismatic leadership in Strategy-2030 and in Strategy-2050 respectively is discursively constructed by Nazarbayev through different means and that the concept is capable of changing over time.
The research question is: has the concept of charismatic leadership discursively transformed from Strategy-2030 to Strategy-2050?
Using the comparative discourse analysis of the two strategic addresses the thesis will research the dynamics of Nazarbayev’s charismatic leadership rhetoric.
