| Vztah britské a americké angličtiny prošel v minulém století výraznými změnami. Původně dominantní britská varieta zejména v období po druhé světové válce ustupovala varietě americké, která se stala jazykem kulturní dominance (např. Simo Bobda 1998). Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, ke které z těchto dvou variet inklinují čeští studenti angličtiny. Práce se zaměřuje na lexikální rozdíly mezi varietami. Teoretická část představí obě variety a na základě literatury popíše, jak se k problému existence dvou norem staví výukové materiály. V empirické části práce student provede výzkum preferencí českých studentů angličtiny, ve kterém se zaměří na vybrané páry lexémů odlišných v britské a americké angličtině. Na základě dotazníku se pokusí zjistit, která varieta v jazyce studentů dominuje a také jaké faktory mohou k dominanci jedné z variet vést.
