Guidelines
The thesis should focus on the ornamentation found on Greek vases of the Archaic and Classical period. It will map the development of ornament and secondary decorations bordering mains scenes and serving as a filling piece on the neck and the body of the vases. Ornaments found in the main scene are out of the scope of this work. The text will be organized chronologically and by motives themselves, such as lotus flowers, palmettes, check borders, flower buds, rays, ivy leaf, key, meander, tongues, etc.
In the introduction, the student will briefly explore the perception of ornamentation and pattern in the art-historical research. She will also try to map out the development of ornamentation before and after the selected periods, in order to see the transformation they underwent.
