The dissertation’s central question is whether Peter Parler knew about English architecture. Either through his personal visit or through architectural plans or sketchbooks. General similarities between Prague’s cathedral and English Decorated Style were first noted in the 1930s. The following research brought to light many specific features, both formal and structural, which led many scholars to believe that Parler’s work was indeed inspired by its English predecessors. These similar features will be described in detail. Various possible means of contact between Peter Parler and England will be discussed as well.
