| Práce analyzuje politický a sociální vývoj ve Spojených státech amerických v letech následujících po občanské válce, sledující historické období mezi lety 1865 a 1877. Pozornost je věnována zejména politickým a ekonomickým změnám v rámci procesu tzv. rekonstrukce a vývoji sociální pozice bývalých otroků s důrazem na společenské konflikty ve státech bývalé Konfederace. Sekundární pozornost je věnována i zhodnocení širších dobových trendů a událostí, souběžných s průmyslovým rozvojem poválečných Spojených států. |
