Guidelines

Diplomová práce bude zkoumat užití čárky v anglickém souvětí v odborném textu psaném výlučně rodilým mluvčím anglického jazyka. Cílem práce bude mimo jiné ověřit hypotézu relativní nekonzistentnosti co do užití čárky v anglickém souvětí, neboť v angličtině všeobecně převažuje deskriptivní přístup (cf. deskriptivní lingvistika/gramatika či jazyková deskripce). A jelikož jednotná jazyková kodifikace interpunkčního systému jako taková rovněž neproběhla – naopak existuje celá řada příruček, v nichž se konvence mohou značně lišit – předpokládá se, že užití čárky bude mezi rodilými mluvčími angličtiny kolísat. Mimoto se podle Crystala (2016) v jejím používání mohou promítat i jiné lingvistické aspekty než syntaktické, a to aspekty sémantické, stylistické, psychologické či spíše psycholingvistické, prozodické a idiosynkratické.
Teoretická část se bude opírat především o studii Primusové (2007), v rámci níž lze rozlišovat mezi prozodickou a gramatickou interpunkcí, přičemž jednou ze dvou tradičních vlastností té prozodické (jež se mimo jiné považuje za charakteristickou pro angličtinu či románské jazyky) je stylistická volnost úzu (Nunberg a Briscoe 2002).
Materiál v empirické části bude zahrnovat 10 odborných článků z různých vědních oborů s cílem ověřit, zda bude úzus variovat v závislosti na druhu textu. Z každého článku budou excerpována všechna souvětí (jak souřadná, tak podřadná), která následně budou podrobena kvantitativní a kvalitativní analýze. Lze předpokládat, že mezi faktory ovlivňujícími užití čárky budou jednak délka klauze a její pozice, jednak těsnost sémantického vztahu mezi klauzemi a popřípadě i významotvorné a jiné faktory, na něž Crystal (2016) odkazuje.
Práce bude vypracována v anglickém jazyce.
