Guidelines

Práce analyzuje vznik a vývoj zvláštního postavení krávy v Indii a jeho důsledky, přičemž se zaměřuje především na moderní dobu. Přestože byla kráva ve védské době obětovávána a pojídána, postupem času jí bylo přisuzováno vyšší postavení než ostatním zvířatům. V druhé polovině 19. století se v Indii začalo rozšiřovat hnutí za ochranu krav (goraksha movement), snažící se prosadit nezabíjení tohoto zvířete. Posvátná kráva se stala jedním z ústředních symbolů nacionalistické podoby hinduismu, skrze který je využívána k ideologickým účelům. V dnešní době se jedná o velice kontroverzní téma a je jablkem sváru komunalistických nepokojů.
