Guidelines

Diplomová práce porovná užívání větných modifikátorů sloužících jako prostředky textové návaznosti v profesionálním odborném textu a v esejích vysokoškolských studentů. Zaměří se na sémantickou třídu konektorů, které Biber a kol. (1991: 877) označují jako ‚result-inference‘ (typ ‚transitions‘ v terminologii Hylanda a Tse, 2004), např. thus, therefore, then, so, hence, as a result. Práce popíše a porovná realizační formy, postavení ve větě, frekvenci a distribuci tohoto typu konektorů v obou typech textů. Bude si přitom všímat i alternativních způsobů vyjadřování rezultativních vztahů (spojky, vedlejší věty ap.). Na základě sekundární literatury lze čekat, že ve studentských pracích bude repertoár konektorů odlišný od odborných článků, bude se lišit také jejich postavení ve větě a frekvence v textu (i když na tom, zda studenti konjunkty nadužívají nebo jich užívají méně než odborníci, se publikované studie neshodují).
Bude shromážděn srovnatelný korpus studentských prací (elektronicky odevzdávané literární eseje studentů bakalářského studia anglistiky) a článků publikovaných v britských odborných časopisech stejného zaměření. Diplomová práce provede nejprve na menším vzorku textů detailní kvalitativní analýzu a identifikuje různé prostředky vyjadřování rezultativních vztahů. Konektory, které budou takto identifikovány, budou pak využity v druhé, kvantitativně-kvalitativní korpusově založené části práce, která bude vycházet z konkordancí vybraných konektorů v obou typech textů.
