Diplomová práce si klade za cíl analyzovat unikátní fenomén severoirských murálů, nástěnných maleb, a jeho úlohu v tamním etnicko-politickému napětí. Odpovídajícím způsobem prozkoumá vztah k identitám a postojům obou komunit a zasadí jej do kontextu „symbolické“ roviny konfliktu, v níž hrají murály hlavní úlohu. Dále pokryje vývoj tohoto specifického prostředku sebeprezentace od počátků Troubles na konci 60. let až do současnosti, včetně proměn v post-konfliktní době. Autor předloží vlastní typologii murálních maleb, analyzuje způsoby jejich užití oběma stranami během konfliktu a také srovná způsob prezentace různých událostí či osobností se skutečným historickým pozadím. |
