Guidelines

Diplomová práce se bude zabývat problematikou fyzického násilí uplatňovaného během první světové války osmanskou vládou proti vlastnímu arménskému obyvatelstvu. Přístup k této otázce bude mít dvě komplementární roviny. Makroúroveň bude sloužit k představení základních politických, institucionální a ideologických souvislostí, zatímco mikroúroveň bude mít ambici zachytit praxi genocidy ve východoanatolském provinčním městě Harpútu.
Mezi základní badatelské otázky práce budou patřit ty po spouštěcích mechanismech násilí, po motivaci pro participaci nebo naopak odporu k němu u různých dobových aktérů a po kořenech a struktuře mezietnických animozit, které vyústily v genocidu. Důraz bude kladen na zkoumání vztahů mezi centrem a periferií ve vyhlazovacím procesu, na stratifikaci mezi participanty na násilí a na dynamiku jejich jednání i na nejnižší úrovni. Metodologicky bude práce vycházet vedle sociálněhistorické perspektivy také z interdisciplinárního pole mladého oboru genocide studies s důrazem na jeho psychologické a antropologické inspirace.
K tématu je dostupná široká paleta literatury vzniklá v kontextu kontroverze s popíráním arménské genocidy. Obě strany sporu vydaly také rozsáhlé edice pramenů v angličtině na podporu svých tvrzení, ty budou tvořit základní zdroj pro můj výzkum. V harpútském regionu, jehož se bude týkat mikrohistorická sonda, se jednalo jmenovitě o deníky dánské misionářky Marie Jacobsenové, paměti amerického misionáře Henryho H. Riggse a doktorky doktorka Ruth A. Parmeleeové, paměti a úřední zprávy amerického konzula Leslie A. Davise nebo telegramy německého misionáře Johannese Ehmanna a další. Vedle svědectví cizinců jsou k dispozici také objemné svazky výpovědí samotných přeživších, z nichž je část spojena i s Harpútem.
