Preliminary scope of work

Naléhavost této práce je dána neustálým zájmem o dílo Jana Vermeera a do této doby
neexistencí samostatné studie o obrazu Alegorie víry, kde by každé části obrazu byla
věnována velká pozornost, a to kvůli zobecnění maximálního množství dostupných materiálů.
Předmětem studie je tedy obraz Jana Vermeera – Alegorie víry namalovaný v sedmdesátých
letech sedmnáctého století – v době zlatého věku holandské malby. Předmětem studie bude zkoumání
významu každého z mnoha a rozmanitých symbolů, které tento obraz obsahuje. Cílem práce je
podrobně popsat a přesně interpretovat prvky alegorie. Úkoly spočívají v rozpoznání symbolických a
alegorických předmětů a jejich interpretace v dobovém kontextu. Hlavními zdroji informací, kromě obrazu samotného, budou
elektronická média, písemné zdroje, a to 42 publikací ze seznamu literatury, mezi
nimiž jsou ikonografické slovníky, monografie o umělci a další práce. Dílo se skládá
z úvodu, pěti kapitol, závěru, seznamu literatury, příloh a obrázkové části. Praktický význam
práce spočívá v možném využití pro přednášky a workshopy o umění Holandska, umění baroka a
pro psaní dalších vědeckých prací.

Preliminary scope of work in English

The relevance of this work is in the constant interest in the work of Jan Vermeer and, until that
time, the absence of a separate monography of the painting Allegory of Faith, where to the each
part of the painting would be given great attention, thanks to the generalization of the maximal
amount of available materials. Thus, the object of the study is a painting by Jan Vermeer – an
Allegory of Faith, painted in the seventies of the seventeenth century – the golden age of Dutch
painting. The subject of the study will be the interpretation of the meaning of each of the
numerous and diverse symbols that this picture contains. The aim of the work is a detailed
description and accurate interpretation of the elements of allegory. The purposes consist in
recognizing allegorical objects, finding their interpretations and correlating the most appropriate
interpretation both with the meanings of other symbols and with the message of the picture in
principle. The main sources of information, in addition to images on electronic media, will be
written sources, namely, 42 publications as part of the list of references, among which there are
iconographic dictionaries, monographs about the artist and other bachelor's works. The work
consists of an introduction, five chapters, a conclusion, a list of references, appendices and part
of the pictures. The practical significance of the work lies in its possible use for lectures and
seminars on Dutch art, Baroque art and for writing other scientific papers.
