Navrhovaná bakalářská práce se bude zabývat vlivem užívání hormonální antikoncepce na partnerské preference u žen, výběr partnera a následnou spokojenost v partnerství, pravděpodobnost rozpadu vztahu, či úspěšnost početí. Předchozí studie ukazují, že hladiny steroidních hormonů ovlivňují některé partnerské preference. Rozdíly v preferencích se ukazují mezi ženami lišícími se v průměrných hladinách některých steroidních hormonů. Zároveň byly zjištěny změny preferencí v průběhu menstruačního cyklu, kdy dochází ke kolísání hladin steroidních hormonů. Podobný efekt by se tedy dal očekávat v důsledku užívání hormonální antikoncepce. Například bylo zjištěno, že užívání hormonální antikoncepce ovlivňuje preference pro tělesné vůně jedinců s podobnějšími geny v rámci MHC systému. Na základě tzv. kongruenční hypotézy lze očekávat snížení spokojenosti ve vztahu v případě, že její aktuální stav je vzhledem k užívání antikoncepce nekongruentní v porovnání s obdobím vzniku nynějšího partnerského vztahu. Cílem navrhované práce je shrnout a kriticky zhodnotit poznatky z dosavadních studií a navrhnout možné směřování dalšího výzkumu v dané oblasti.
Preliminary scope of work in English
The proposed bachelor thesis will deal with the effect of oral contraceptive use on women’s mate preferences, partner choice and subsequent relationship satisfaction, likelihood of relationship breakdown, and success of conception. Previous studies show that levels of steroid hormones may affect women’s mate preferences. Differences in these preferences were observed across women varying in their mean levels of some steroid hormones. Furthermore, changes in these preferences were found across the menstrual cycle, which is characterized by fluctuations of steroid hormones levels. An effect similar to this could be expected as a consequence of oral contraceptive use; for instance it was found that the use of hormonal contraceptives influences the preferences for body odour of the individuals with more similar genes within the MHC system. The congruency hypothesis predicts decrease in the relationship satisfaction if the woman’s actual oral contraceptive use is incongruent with her use of contraception during the relationship formation. The main aim of this thesis is to review and critically evaluate findings from previous studies and suggest a possible future research direction for this area.
