Preliminary scope of work |
Preliminary scope of work in English |
Supercnductivity is one of the most interesting physical proporties. Conventional superconductivity found by many pure elements or compoundsis well described by the BCS (Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer) theory. The discovery of high-temperature superconductors at the end of the last century was a breakthrough in the research of superconducting materials. In the last years, high attention attract also unconventional superconductors where the superconductivity is mediated by magnetic fluctuations or even the superconductivity and magnetically ordered state coexist. Recently, several non-magnetic compounds with significant deviations from the BCS theory (e.g. different behavior of specific heat below and near the critical temperature or different field dependence of the critical temperatue) were found. These comprise mainly materials with a non-centrosymmetric crystal structure as e.g. LaNiC2. Similar properties was observed however also in LaPd2Al2 and LaPd2Ga2 which crystallize in a centrosymmetric structure. In this work, compounds which exhibit deviations from the BCS theory will be studied. We plan to investigate the influence of crystal structure details, external pressure and substitutions on their behavior.
The proposed work is focused on complex study of selected compounds. The work will comprise sample preparation including single crystals, detailed structural and phase characteristics, investigation using bulk (electrical resistivity, specific heat, magnetization), eventually also microscopic (neutron scattering) experimental techniques. |
