Monte Carlo methods have established themselves as a standard tool in many fields including realistic image synthesis. The goal of this dissertation is to advance the state-of-the-art in Monte Carlo methods for image synthesis, and to employ those methods to develop new practical, efficient and reliable rendering algorithms.
