Guidelines |
With a growing need for network traffic processing at high link rates, the traditional hardware and software solutions become insufficient. The goal of the thesis is to focus on integrated network traffic processing frameworks that overcome this obstacle by distributing the network traffic processing both onto the userspace and kernel applications on the network host and onto applications running on specialized network processors.
The thesis should describe the Fairly Fast Packet Filter project and the Ruler packet matching language of the project, analyze the capabilities offered by the project as far as network traffic processing and connection inspection is concerned, and provide an implementation support of the Ruler language for the Intel IXP 2xxx network processing chips together with benchmarks illustrating the ability of the implementation to cope with high link rates. |
