Preliminary scope of work

Tématem plánované diplomové práce je, s použitím kvalitativního přístupu, prozkoumat, jakou roli měl panovník Spojeného království Velké Británie a Severního Irska v procesu dekolonizace zámořských území na Africkém kontinentu. Dekolonizace britských území v Africe představuje jedno z klíčových období moderní světové historie, které výrazně ovlivnilo nejen geopolitické uspořádání afrického kontinentu, ale i samotné Spojené království a jeho postavení ve světě. Samotná kolonizace, a s ním spojené dekolonizace, jsou stále velice ožehavé dějinné periody a ve společnosti vyvolávají silné emoce. Pozice britského panovníka je pak v této problematice obzvláště zajímavá, jelikož je pro mnohé obyvatele bývalých kolonií označován, spolu s celou britskou královskou rodinou, jako symbol kolonizace a jejího dědictví. Ke kolonizaci jako takové však patří i otázka dekolonizace. Jinak řečeno, jedná se o jev, kdy bývalé kolonie evropských zámořských velmocí postupně získávali nezávislost. Pozice a role britského panovníka a královské rodiny při kolonizaci prvních území jsou v aktuální vědecké literatuře popsány poměrně podrobně, jeho role při dekolonizaci však dobře popsána a analyzována není. Je to dle mého názoru způsobené především postupně se snižujícím pravomocem panovníka Velké Británie přímo ovlivňovat politické dění v, a především mimo zemi. Nicméně, i přes klesající vliv je vliv britského panovníka stále značný. Nejedná se však o přímou politickou moc, ale spíše symbolický, diskurzivní a nepřímý vliv, který nemusí být na první pohled znatelný.

Preliminary scope of work in English

The topic of the planned diploma thesis is, using a qualitative approach, to examine the role of the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the process of decolonization of overseas territories on the African continent. The decolonization of British territories in Africa represents one of the key periods of modern world history, which significantly influenced not only the geopolitical arrangement of the African continent, but also the United Kingdom itself and its position in the world. Colonization itself, and the decolonization associated with it, are still very sensitive historical periods and evoke strong emotions in society. The position of the British monarch is particularly interesting in this issue, because for many residents of former colonies he is described, along with the entire British royal family, as a symbol of colonization and its heritage. However, colonization as such also includes the issue of decolonization. In other words, it is a phenomenon in which former colonies of European overseas powers gradually gained independence. The position and role of the British monarch and the royal family in the colonization of the first territories are described in quite detail in the current scientific literature, but its role in decolonization is not well described and analyzed. In my opinion, this is mainly due to the gradually decreasing authority of the monarch of Great Britain to directly influence political events in, and especially outside, the country. However, despite the decreasing influence, the influence of the British monarch is still significant. However, this is not a direct political power, but rather a symbolic, discursive and indirect influence, which may not be noticeable at first glance.
