Guidelines |

Preliminary scope of work |
Kolaborace ATLAS postavila a provozuje obří detektor částic, který zkoumá produkty srážek protonů urychlených urychlovačem LHC ve švýcarské laboratoři CERN. Nejvýznamnější důvody pro vybudování LHC a ATLASu byly hledání Higgsova bosonu a hledání jakýchkoliv dalších nových (třeba i neočekávaných) elementárních částic.
Preliminary scope of work in English |
The ATLAS collaboration built and operates a huge detector of particles that studies products of collisions of protons accelerated by the LHC accelerator in the Swiss laboratory CERN. The main reasons for the construction of the LHC and ATLAS were search for the Higgs boson and searches for further new (even unexpected) elementary particles. The Higgs boson discovery was announced in 2012 but a discovery of any other new particle is still not there. Currently, at least hundreds of people are searching for new particles on ATLAS.
During his work, the student will get familiar with with tools and methods that are commonly used in the particle physics. Namely, with programming languages C++ and Python, with a framework for data analysis ROOT and with statistical methods used at the LHC. |
