Guidelines

Cílem mé práce je analyzovat působení mírových jednotek UNPROFOR (United Nations Protection Force) během občanské války v Bosně a Hercegovině v letech 1993-1995. Zvláště se zaměřím na město Goražde a jeho okolí, které bylo spolu s dalšími pěti oblastmi ustanoveno rezolucí Rady bezpečnosti OSN č. 824 jako tzv. bezpečná zóna, tj. oblast, jež by se neměla stát cílem žádného ozbrojeného útoku či jiného nepřátelského činu. Vzhledem k tomu, jak nedávný konflikt to je, považuji téma za stále aktuální a působení mírových jednotek za otázku hodnou bližšího zkoumání.

Preliminary scope of work

Práce se věnuje roli mírových jednotek UNPROFOR, nasazených do války v Bosně a Hercegovině s cílem chránit místní obyvatelstvo a zajišťovat bezpečnou přepravu konvojů humanitární pomoci. Dále se zaměřuje především na působení těchto jednotek od dubna, resp. května roku 1993, kdy jim byl prostřednictvím rezolucí Rady bezpečnosti OSN udělen mandát na ochranu nově vytvořených bezpečných oblastí, mezi nimiž bylo i Goražde. Cílem práce je na příkladu pobytu jednotek UNPROFOR v Goražde rozebrat konkrétní důvody proč mise OSN byla většinově neúspěšná.

Preliminary scope of work in English

This thesis is focused on the role of UNPROFOR, a peace-keeping force deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the purpose of protecting civilians and securing safe transport of humanitarian convoys. the main part of the thesis is focusing on the fulfillment of their mandate from the time that the safe area concept was introduced in Bosnia in 1993. The goal of this thesis is to analyze the specific reasons of the more or less unsuccessful UN mission based on its mandate in Gorazde.
