Guidelines
It has been shown that creaky voice is associated with specific social meanings and emotions (e.g. Gobl & Ní Chasaide 2000), which play a significant role in commercials since they contribute to customer-brand relationship. There is also research that suggests that there is a relationship between the occurrence of creaky voice and ad efficacy (Wiener & Chartrand 2014). In this context, the present thesis aims to investigate if and how the occurrence of creaky voice correlates with communicated (social) functions in commercials. The frequency of creaky voice will be analysed across different contexts. The independent variable of primary interest is that of the communicated emotion. However, other factors that may affect the results will be taken into account; namely the speaker’s sex, the segmental environment, and the prosodic environment.
Práce bude vypracována v anglickém jazyce.
