Preliminary scope of work

Jednotka intenzivní péče je oddělení, kde jsou hospitalizování pacienti, kteří jsou ohroženi selháním základních životních funkcí. Je to prostředí zcela specifické a pro laickou veřejnost většinou nepředstavitelné. Hospitalizace pacienta na jednotce intenzivní péče je mnohdy nečekána a rodina pacienta je zcela zaskočena vzniklou situací. Na zdravotnickém personálu je aby pomohl rodině se se vzniklou situací vyrovnat, poskytnul jí dostatečné informace a byl jí oporou v nelehké životní situaci. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit profesionální připravenost sester a lékařů v oblastech komunikace a strategii přístupu k rodinám pacientů hospitalizovaných na jednotce intenzivní péče. Dále pak zmapovat zkušenosti rodinných příslušníků pacienta s průběhem vzájemné spolupráce a interakce se zdravotnickým personálem během hospitalizace pacienta. Otázky budou zaměřeny na oblasti komunikace, prostředí, času a potřeby rodinného příslušníka. Výzkum bude proveden ve fakultní nemocnici pomocí kvantitativního a kvalitativního výzkumu, metodou polostrukturovaných interview s rodinami pacienta a strukturovaným dotazníkem se zdravotnickým personálem. Domnívám se, že výsledky výzkumu ukáží možné nedostatky, zejména v kvalitě komunikace a informovanosti rodin. Výsledky výzkumu budou použity pro vytvoření informační brožury pro rodiny pacientů hospitalizovaných ve fakultní nemocnici na jednotce intenzivní péče. Dále pak předpokládám spolupráci s odborem kvality fakultní nemocnice, která by mohla vést ke zlepšení dané situace například proškolením zdravotnického personálu v oblasti komunikace a změny prostředí ve kterém jsou informace rodinám podávány.

Preliminary scope of work in English

Intensive care unit (ICU) is an unit where patients under threat of failure of vital signs are hospitalized. It is an environment which is quite specific and mostly unimaginable to the lay public. Hospitalization of the patient in the ICU is often unexpected and patient's family is completely caught out by this new situation. It is exactly the medical staff who should help the family to deal with new situation, provide sufficient information and be a support in the difficult life situation. The aim of this thesis is to analyze professional readiness of the nurses and doctors in the sphere of communication and strategy of the approach to the families of the patients hospitalized in the ICU. Also, this thesis has to map the experience of the patient's family members with the mutual cooperation and interaction with medical staff during patient's hospitalization. Questions will be focused on the spheres of communication, environment, time and needs of the family member. Research will be done at the University Hospital with the help of quantitative and qualitative research, method of half-structured interviews with patient's families and structured questionnaire with medical staff. I assume that research results will show possible shortcomings, especially in the quality of communication and family awareness. These results will be used to create an information brochure for the families of the patients hospitalized in the ICU of the University Hospital.
I also assume cooperation with the quality department of the University Hospital, which might lead to the improvement of the situation, for example by training of the medical staff
in the sphere of communication and change of the environment where the families get the information.
