Guidelines
Process of region building or regionalization is something which is emerging phenomenon interesting for historians, geographers, political scientists, economists and diplomats. The concepts of region and regionalization are difficult to define because they incorporate different narratives and categories as regional identity, spatial borders and delineating, cultural and social homogeneity, political and economic interdependence etc. For better understanding of these two concepts in the context of two selected cases it is necessary to see them in historical and political dimensions.
Visegrad and Western Balkan countries in the political terminology are very often designated as region but in same time, there are existing doubts in some academic areas does these two regional groupings could be consider as a such. From other side taking in consideration geographic proximity of these two groups of countries, their common historical past, their economical, cultural and political interactions lead to necessity of their mutual closer cooperation and integration. For both, Visegrad and Western Balkan countries are noticeable in qualitative and quantitative manner, efforts of establishing deeper and more effective defense and security cooperation. Taking in consideration that defense and security is consider as a very rigid and strong part of the national sovereignty, then this kind of cooperation have potential to implicate boosting of the regional cooperation in many other sectors. Furthermore this could be significant symbol of existing regional cohesion. Analyzing the documents and practical steps that are already undertaken in institutional and operational level, in the domain of regional defense and security cooperation in Visegrad and Western Balkan countries, could give comprehensive overview in which direction the process of regionalization is developing or could be develop, then in what matter this kind of cooperation contribute for regional cohesion and better internal and external perception that these two groups of countries could be called "region".
