Preliminary scope of work
Využití spinu elektronu k zápisu a uchování informace, využívající velmi tenkých magnetických vrstev, nanostruktur a multivrstev, vedlo v nedávné době ke vzniku nového oboru elektroniky, tzv. spintroniky. Její další rozvoj není myslitelný bez důkladného teoretického studia jak konkrétních materiálů (magnetické polovodiče, polokovové magnety, spinové polovodiče bez zakázaného pásu), tak i nových transportních vlastností a jevů (anomální a spinový Hallův jev, tunelovací anizotropní magnetorezistence, spinová difúze a tlumení, atd.). Náplní práce bude vývoj a aplikace moderních teoretických metod (relativistická teorie funkcionálu hustoty, rovnovážné a nerovnovážné Greenovy funkce) na vybrané systémy a jejich fyzikální vlastnosti.
Preliminary scope of work in English
A recently established new research field related to recording and storage of magnetic information – spintronics - employs electron spin in ultrathin magnetic films, nanostructures and multilayers. Future development of this field requires deep theoretical study of specific materials (magnetic semiconductors, halfmetallic magnets, spin gapless semiconductors) as well as of novel transport properties and phenomena (anomalous and spin Hall effect, tunnelling anisotropic magnetoresistance, spin diffusion and damping, etc.). The thesis will be focused on development and application of modern theoretical tools (relativistic density functional theory, equilibrium and non-equilibrium Green's functions) to selected systems and their physical properties.
