Guidelines

Práce se bude soustřeďovat hlavně na formální stránky Ashberyho poezie. Protože Ashbery je postmoderní básník a ve svých dílech reflektuje celou řadu vlivů, a také pro účely zasazení jeho tvorby do širšího kontextu, bude práce vypracována formou srovnání s dvěma inspiračními zdroji.
Prvním bude malířství abstraktních expresionistů poloviny dvacátého století, mezi nimiž se Ashbery pohyboval a s jejichž formálními technikami vykazuje jeho poezie jisté podobnosti. Druhým pak bude svérázné dílo francouzského protosurrealisty Raymonda Roussela, který byl předmětem Ashberyho výzkumu k zamýšlené disertační práci. Výběr neliterární respektive okrajové tvorby je zde dán Ashberyho skepsí vůči oficiálnímu literárnímu kánonu a vytváření kánonu vlastního, jak ho autor prezentuje v knize „Other Traditions.“ Práce má za úkol odhalit možné styčné body, vymezit a objasnit Ashberyho postupy na pozadí těchto inspiračních zdrojů a umístit Ashberyho do širšího kontextu.
Většina literatury použité k jejímu zpracování je dostupná v odborných knihovnách nebo v internetových databázích elektronických zdrojů.
