Seznam diplomových prací obhájených na německé Karlo-Ferdinandově univerzitě v letech 1882-1918 a na Německé univerzitě v Praze (Deutsche Universität in Prag) je v inventářích fondů těchto univerzit, diplomové práce samy jsou patrně uloženy v depozitářích Archivu a ústavu dějin Karlovy univerzity. Úkolem diplomanta bude prohlédnout tyto práce, rozčlenit jejich témata a diskutovat jejich souvislosti s vědeckým zaměřením Astronomického ústavu těchto pražských německých univerzit. Další související materiály diplomant vyhledat ve fondu Německé univerzity v Praze, resp. v Archivu AV ČR.

Preliminary scope of work
Po rozdělení pražské univerzity na českou a německou část v roce 1882 se klementinská hvězdárna stala Astronomickým ústavem německé univerzity. Jeho prvním ředitelem byl v roce 1883 jmenován Ladislaus Weinek, který se do historie astronomie zapsal jako autor prvního fotografického atlasu Měsíce, průkopník astronomické fotografie (prvý snímek meteoru) a spoluautor objevu pohybu pólu Země (spolu s astronomem F. Küstnerem z Bonnu). Dalším významným astronomem tohoto ústavu byl Rudolf Spitaler, objevitel několika komet. V roce 1918 se německá Karlo-Ferdinandova univerzita transformovala na Deutsche Universität in (zu) Prag, která existovala až do konce 2. sv. války v roce 1945. Německý univerzitní astronomický ústav byl prakticky ve stejném personálním složení začleněn na mezi ústavy této meziválečné německé univerzity. Také zde působili vynikající astronomové, těsně před válkou např. německý astronom židovského původu Erwin Finlay-Freundlich, Einsteinův přítel. Diplomové práce vedené a obhájené na tomto ústavu proto představují zajímavý zdroj informací k historii astronomie u nás, který dosud nebyl zpracován.
Preliminary scope of work in English
After the spliiting of Prague university into Czech and German parts in 1882, the observatory in Clementinum College became Astronomical institute of the German university. Its first director, Ladislaus Weinek, contributed to the history of astronomy by publishing of the first photographic atlas of the Moon, by pioneering works in astronomical photography (first picture of a meteor trail), and by discovery of polar motion (together with F. Küstner in Bonn). Other outstanding astronomer at this institute was Rudolph Spitaler, discoverer of several comets. In 1918, the German Universitas Carolo-Fernandea transformed into Deutsche Universität in (zu) Prag, which existed until the end of World War II in 1945. The German astronomical institute, practically with the same staff, was included among institutes of this German Prague university. The German Jewish astronomer Erwin Finlay-Freundlich, a friend of Albert Einstein, was another distinguished scientist at this institute (shortly before the WWII). MSc theses elaborated and defended at this institute do represent an interesting and not yet treated source to the history of astronomy in our countries.
