Testosteron je zásadním steroidním hormonem souvisejícím s reprodukčními funkcemi samců a reguluje řadu behaviorálních i fyziologických aspektů rozmnožování, včetně agresivity, zpěvu a ornamentace. V bakalářské práci bude podán souhrn dosavadních poznatků o vnitropopulační a mezidruhové variabilitě hladin testosteronu u ptáků a jejich vztahu k ornamentaci samců i samic. Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována roli testosteronu v kontextu různých pářících systémů, například monogamie, polygynie nebo promiskuity, a vztahu k míře pohlavního dimorfismu. Práce se dále zaměří na ekologické a behaviorální faktory, které variabilitu v hladině testosteronu ovlivňují, a zhodnotí jejich význam z hlediska životních strategií jednotlivých druhů. Na práci může navazovat diplomový projekt.
Preliminary scope of work in English
Testosterone is a key steroid hormone associated with male reproductive functions, regulating a range of behavioural and physiological traits such as aggression, song, and ornamentation. This bachelor thesis will provide a synthesis of current knowledge on intra- and interspecific variation in circulating testosterone levels in birds, with particular attention to its relationship with ornamentation in both males and females. Special focus will be given to the role of testosterone in the context of different mating systems, including monogamy, polygyny, and promiscuity, and how testosterone levels relate to the degree of sexual dimorphism and dichromatism. Furthermore, the thesis will examine ecological and behavioural correlates of testosterone level variation. This work may serve as a foundation for a future master’s thesis project.
