Preliminary scope of work

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá protesty zemědělců v EU na jaře roku 2024. Cílem práce je lépe porozumět požadavkům zemědělců a důvodům, které je k protestům vedly a sledovat, zda se v těchto důvodech odrážejí strukturální problémy současného potravinového systému. Za tímto účelem jsou zkoumány oficiální požadavky zemědělských organizací a mediální rozhovory s protestujícími zemědělci ve třech členských státech EU, přičemž je využita kvalitativní obsahová analýza. Zjištění vycházející z analýzy jsou následně interpretována z pohledu politické ekologie a teorie potravinových režimů, které slouží jako teoretický rámec práce. Výsledkem je identifikace hlavních požadavků zemědělců, kterými jsou zrušení environmentálních nařízení, ochrana domácího trhu, zjednodušení byrokracie a zachování či navýšení podpor pro zemědělce. Za důvod k protestům, který může pramenit z nastavení potravinového systému, je označena ekonomická nejistota zemědělců. Zkoumáním protestů zemědělců v kontextu teorie potravinových režimů a globálních souvislostí se práce snaží nabídnout nový pohled na problémy, kterým zemědělci v EU čelí.

Abstract
This bachelor thesis explores the protests of farmers in the EU in the spring of 2024. The aim of the thesis is to seek to enhance our understanding of the demands of farmers and the reasons that led them to protest, and to examine whether these reasons reflect structural problems in the current food system. In light of this, the official demands of agricultural organisations and media interviews with protesting farmers in three EU member states are examined using qualitative content analysis. The findings from the analysis are then interpreted from the perspective of political ecology and food regime theory, which serve as the theoretical framework for the thesis. The result is the identification of the main demands of farmers, which are the deregulation of environmental laws, protection of the domestic market, simplification of bureaucracy, and the maintenance or increase of subsidies for farmers. It is thought that the protests, which may possibly stem from the structure of the food system, could be linked to the economic uncertainty experienced by farmers. By examining farmers' protests in the context of food regime theory and global contexts, the thesis seeks to offer a new perspective on the problems faced by farmers in the EU.
