Preliminary scope of work in English

The 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine propelled the women of Ukraine to take on roles and responsibilities that would aid in the war effort. Although historically, Ukrainian women have shouldered the burdens of war crises, their roles have been eclipsed. To ascertain the continuum of their contributions, this thesis situates the open-ended roles of Ukrainian women in the ongoing war since 2022’s Russia invasion of Ukraine. The multifarious responsibilities carried on by Ukrainian women are sorted as soldiers, volunteers, veterans, paramedics, and journalists, and are inspected in terms of the challenges that Ukrainian women face in each capacity they occupy. To make clear the historical continuity and change in Ukrainian women’s engagement through multifarious functions during wartime, the research draws out patterns from historical analysis of primary and secondary sources that delineate roles that Ukrainian women have assumed in World War I and II. Finally, Pierre Bourdieu's theory of practice cements the findings within its framework as it clarifies how Ukrainian women's wartime roles induce broader social transformation by challenging existing norms and practices amidst an unremitting war.
