The investigation of flows of superfluid helium-4 is an active and challenging research field. The work focuses on the experimental analysis of the starting vortex shed by a relatively large object accelerating from rest in this unique liquid. Comparisons with analogous flows of Newtonian fluids are specifically discussed. The study main aim is to contribute to our current understanding of the fluid behaviour in the proximity of solid boundaries, which is still largely unknown. |
