Preliminary scope of work
• Mexican drug cartels are one of the most influential and powerful criminal organizations in the world with ties to local and international governments around the world, but specially in the American continent with their presence being the strongest in Mexico and the United States.
• The American continent is the “Home Turf” for the Mexican drug cartels, with direct impact to other countries south of the Mexican border.
• With to the Geographical scope being Mexico, the United States, Central and South America.
• Time frame: 1980 (founding of the Cartel de Guadalajara) – present day

Working hypotheses and Research Questions:

1. What is the relationship between Mexican drug cartels and the Mexican government and how it has developed throughout the years?
a. Including relationship between the cartels and other countries in the American continent.
2. How did the Mexican drug cartels start?
a. And the effect it had on the continent.
3. What is the current reach (expansion) of Mexican drug cartels?
4. What is the impact of Mexican drug cartels in the American continent?
a. Economically, socially, and economically.

Aim: Evaluating the impact and reach of Mexican drug cartels in the American continent.
