Preliminary scope of work |
Preliminary scope of work in English |
Measurements based on spontaneous emission – fluorescence – are very sensitive due to the detection against a dark background. However, they inherently provide information only about the final, emission state of the molecules after photoexcitation. In contrast, ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy methods allow monitoring of the initial state of the molecules after absorption and the subsequent excitation dynamics. However, ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy usually requires bulk samples and is detected coherently. Recently, we have developed a new way to measure transient absorption by detecting sample fluorescence (Malý et Brixner, Fluorescence-Detected Pump-Probe Spectroscopy, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 60, 18867 (2021)). It turns out that, in addition to its practical advantages, this technique has other properties than standard transient absorption. One of these appears to be the possibility of isolating the signal from the excited state by stimulated emission. The scope of this paper is to investigate this possibility and the scope of its validity. The work is mostly theoretical, experimental data for eventual verification are available. |
