Guidelines

Cílem této diplomové práce je analyzovat, jak Philip Roth ve své tvorbě s pomocí humoru podrývá stereotypy ve vyobrazení židovských postav: a to jak stereotypy staré, antisemitské, tak nové, pozitivní.
V úvodních kapitolách bude představena teorie stereotypu a jeho role (Homi K. Bhabha), jakož i historie antisemitských stereotypů zejména s přihlédnutím k britskému a americkému literárnímu kánonu (Lillian S. Kremer). Dále bude vysvětlena komika a její úloha v umění, jakož i specifika židovského humoru.
Samotný rozbor se pak zaměří na hlavní židovské postavy povídek Eli the Fanatic a Defender of the Faith a románů Portnoy´s Complaint a American Pastoral, přičemž v úvahu budou okrajově vzaty též postavy bílých anglosaských protestantů. Postupováno bude chronologicky.
V poslední kapitole se zváží, nakolik jsou učiněné závěry platné v kontextu celého Rothova díla.
