Preliminary scope of work

Cílem diplomové práce je zmapovat vizuální reprezentaci dětí v kontextu izraelsko-palestinského konfliktu v online verzi izraelského deníku Haaretz a arabského zpravodajského serveru Al Jazeera. Práce se zaměří na konkrétní způsoby, jakými vybraná média děti zobrazují. Jejím cílem bude také zjistit, zda jsou v zobrazování dětí mezi těmito médii rozdíly a pokud ano, tak popsat, jaké jsou. Na tento hlavní výzkumný problém naváže dílčí zkoumání rozdílů v zobrazování palestinských a izraelských dětí v obou médiích – tedy jakým způsobem zobrazuje Aljazeera či Haaretz palestinské a jak izraelské děti. Tento dílčí úkol pak pomůže odhalit případné projevy stereotypizace ve zobrazování.

Preliminary scope of work in English

The aim of the thesis is to map the visual representation of children in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the online version of the Israeli daily Haaretz and the Arabic news server Al Jazeera. The work will focus on the specific ways in which the selected media portray children. It will also aim to establish whether there are differences in the portrayal of children between these media and, if so, to describe what they are. This main research problem will be followed by a sub-research on the differences in the portrayal of Palestinian and Israeli children in the two media - that is, how Aljazeera or Haaretz portrays Palestinian and Israeli children. This sub-task will then help to reveal possible manifestations of stereotyping in the portrayal.
