Preliminary scope of work in English
The main target of my thesis is to develop an experimental model to examine the participants’ household energy conservation behavior by revealing the extent to which factors are effective on the house energy conservation behaviors. Basically, I planned to integrate the Norm-Activation model (NAM) into the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and I created a model toward the prediction of the socio-psychological factors' impacts on household energy conservation behavior of individuals. The developed model contains the main components of both models (ascription of responsibility, awareness of consequences, personal norm, social norm, perceived behavioral control, attitude, and intention) beside socio-demographic variables. I assume that individuals’ income level and household size factors would influence the participants’ household energy conservation behavior and the models’ components differently. Thus, I think socio-demographic variables are influential factors on both TPB and NAM models' components in the context of household energy conservation behavior. In sum, I would like to test both models separately, and together (as the created model) to reveal the impacts of psychological and socio-demographical factors that impact household energy conservation behavior of participants. Both models have been used to explain the pro-environmental behavior, but they are slightly different from each other. The TPB explains the behavior through intentions whereas the NAM explains the behavior through personal norms. Briefly, the TPB asserts that behavioral intention determines an individual’s actual behavior, and behavioral intention is determined by three variables; subjective norms, attitude toward behavior, and perceived behavioral control. In this model, an individual’s behavior to the society’s interest is a logical consequence of his/her personal costs and interests to perform the behavior in question.
