Jety pocházející z různých druhů partonů (kvarků a gluonů) budou mít různou odezvu v detektoru a budou interagovat rozdílně při průchodu kvark-gluonové plazmy. |

Preliminary scope of work in English |
The purpose of heavy-ion physics is to investigate the properties of the strong interaction and matter under the extreme conditions created by the collision of two relativistic heavy ions. The theory of the strong interaction, quantum chromodynamics, predicts the emergence of a new state of matter called a quark-gluon plasma. High-energy particles carrying a color charge are affected when traversing this hot and dense matter leading to the suppression of collimated sprays of particles, so-called jets.
Jets originating from different types of partons (quarks and gluons) will have different responses in the detector and interact differently as they pass through the quark-gluon plasma. The student will investigate the possibility of using machine learning methods to determine the type of jets, which would lead to improved calibration and be directly applicable in physical analyses. |
