Molecular evidence for the homology of sex chromosomes is limited to few amniote lineageswhich do not allow more robust conclusions about transitions among sex determination systems or reconstruction of the ancestral state. Therefore, the identification of gene content of sex chromosome in key lineages is crucial for our understanding of the evolutionary processes concerning the evolution of sex determination systems in squamate reptiles, and subsequently in vertebrates.
