Preliminary scope of work

Cílem diplomové práce bude zmapovat představy novinářů a novinářek o svobodě médií v zemích Visegrádské skupiny. V teoretické části se práce pokusí komplexně zachytit historický vývoj svobody slova (přibližně od období osvícenství až po současnost), její právní zakotvení v mezinárodních úmluvách a listinách a ústavní ochranu. Dále představí neziskové organizace monitorující míru svobody tisku ve světě a podobu mediálních systémů ve sledovaných zemích. Analytická část pak bude kvalitativní metodou zkoumat novinářské uvažování a reflexi svobody médií v jednotlivých zemích Visegrádské skupiny. Výzkum bude probíhat formou rozhovorů s aktivními novináři a pokusí se odpovědět na otázku, jak dotazovaní rozumějí pojmu svoboda médií a jak svobodná jsou podle nich média v jejich zemi.

Preliminary scope of work in English

The aim of the diploma thesis is to be to map the ideas of journalists about media freedom in the Visegrad Group countries. In the theoretical part, the thesis will attempt to comprehensively capture the historical development of freedom of speech (approximately from the era of Enlightenment to the present), its legal basis in international conventions and documents and constitutional protection. It will also present non-profit organizations monitoring the degree of freedom of the press in the world and the media systems in the four countries. The analytical part will then use a qualitative method to examine journalistic thinking and reflection on media freedom in the countries of the Visegrad Group. The research will take the form of interviews with active journalists and will try to answer the question of how respondents understand the concept of media freedom and how free they think the media are in their country.
