Preliminary scope of work in English
The thesis brings the basic knowledge about the visual perception of prey in amphibians. The review will follow the founding work of Jörg-Peter Ewert, who studied the predator and prey discrimination in toads. The neuroanatomy of visual perception of above-mentioned stimuli is known in detail in toads. The thesis also focuses on the prey capture biomechanics in frogs, which was studied in detail by Kiisa Nishikawa. The aims of the thesis are: 1) to summarize the newest knowledge concerning the visual perception of prey in frogs; 2) to put it in the context of prey capture biomechanics, and 3) to collect the data concerning the prey capture biomechanics in consecutive families of Anura and map this behaviour on a phylogenetic tree. This approach allows us to outline the evolution of hunting behaviour in amphibians.
