Cílem práce je shromáždit publikovaná data o množství (početnosti a biomase) základních skupin živočichů v hlavních biomech na povrchu Země a zhodnotit jejich relativní dominanci. Práce by měla ověřit, do jaké míry platí tradované představy o převaze hmyzu (respektive dílčích skupin hmyzu jako jsou mravenci nebo termiti) v terestrických ekosystémech a ukázat, jak důležití jsou v ekosystémech bezobratlí oproti obratlovčí megafauně.
Preliminary scope of work in English
The aim of the work is to collect published data on the quantity (abundance and biomass) of basic groups of animals in the main biomas on the surface of the Earth and to evaluate their relative dominance. The work should investigate if the imaginations about importance of insects (or sub-groups of insects such as ants or termites) are right and how they apply to terrestrial ecosystems and to show how important they are in invertebrate ecosystems as compared to vertebrate megafauna.
