Preliminary scope of work
The overall aim of the PhD project is to enhance our understanding of genome size variation in microalgae and its evolutionary consequences. Specifically, to make a thorough literature survey providing an overview of the currently used FCM protocols for microalgae and pointing to their limitations. Second, to develop new FCM protocols particularly suitable for problematic microalgae. Finally, to thoroughly investigate DNA content variation in chrysophytes and its ecophysiological consequences.
