Preliminary scope of work |
Preliminary scope of work in English |
The Thesis will be focused on measurements of the transition to turbulence in normal and superfluid helium using low-frequency oscillators. From the data obtained in the entire temperature range from 4.2 K down to mK temperatures (10 mK) achieved in a dilution refrigerator, the damping factors of these oscillators will be determined and used to infer further properties of the oscillatory flows, including the generation of quantized vortices and the transition to turbulence. The principal aim of the Thesis is therefore to gain further insight into the details of the transition of oscillatory flow from laminar to turbulent, and especially into the mechanisms of transition from the potential flow of the superfluid component of He II to a dissipative one owing to the nucleation of quantized vortices. |
